Want to work part-time? Re-locate to Devon? Be part of a busy, friendly, ethically-aware practice?
McCaren Architecture are seeking an experienced (at least 3 years post-part 3) architect to join our small team based in Plymouth. Located on the boundary of Devon and Cornwall, the position offers an opportunity to work family-friendly hours in a part of the UK that boasts beaches, moors, affordable property, great schools and a burgeoning urban arts culture.
The focus of this part-time role is primarily commercial architecture within an overall practice workload that includes commercial, residential and community projects. The ideal candidate will be a solid all-rounder with experience in motor showroom design (or similar), and experience from inception to completion including production information, tendering, and contract administration.
This is a great opportunity for someone seeking part-time hours without a reduction in project responsibility. As part of our small, supportive team you will see projects through from start to finish, manage your own workload, develop solid long-term relationships with key clients and consultants, delegate to junior staff where appropriate, and deliver high-quality commercial architecture.
Requirements of the position are:
- At least 3 years post-part 3 experience.
- Job runner / self-starter.
- Excellent design and problem-solving skills.
- Good CAD skills: AutoCAD LT essential, Revit LT desirable.
- Production information / tendering experience.
- Contract admin experience.
- Excellent client / consultant communication skills.
We are a practice with strong social and ethical values balanced by pragmatism. In the longer term you will have an opportunity to be part of a co-operative ownership structure and to help shape our future practice in line with these values. We welcome applications from parents, carers or those returning to work after a career break.
In the first instance, please send a CV with examples of work and salary expectation to email. Long-listed candidates will be interviewed by telephone, short-listed candidates will then be invited to interview in person.
